Mississauga, ON — October 18, 2025 — The City of Mississauga paid tribute to the late Lloyd Stockley, a pioneer in junior hockey and beloved community leader, by posthumously presenting him with the Key to the City during a special pre-game ceremony on Saturday, October 18 at Port Credit Memorial Arena.
The honour was accepted by his daughter, Heather Stockley, Owner and Governess of the Mississauga Chargers, in front of family, players, and fans — a moment that symbolized the enduring impact of Lloyd’s decades-long commitment to youth and junior hockey in the community.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in 1943, Lloyd Stockley relocated to Mississauga in his early twenties and went on to found both the Mississauga Jets in 1970 and the Mississauga Chargers Junior A Hockey Club, which he led for over 30 years. Through his leadership, thousands of young athletes were given opportunities to grow, compete, and succeed in the sport he loved.
“Dad built these programs from the ground up with nothing but heart, determination, and an unwavering belief in people,” said Heather Stockley. “This honour represents not only his work, but the generations of players, coaches, and families who helped shape hockey in Mississauga.”
The evening also marked the Chargers’ annual Pink in the Rink theme night — a powerful community initiative dedicated to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Fans filled the stands wearing pink, rallying behind the cause and celebrating the intersection of sport, community, and compassion.
Proceeds from the night, including a portion of ticket sales and donations, will support local breast cancer research at the Canadian Cancer Society, reinforcing the Chargers’ commitment to giving back and leading with purpose both on and off the ice.
“Honouring Lloyd and supporting such an important cause in one evening truly reflected what this organization stands for,” said Heather. “Community, gratitude, and heart — those were my father’s values, and they continue to guide everything we do.”
Lloyd Stockley’s legacy continues to live on through the players, families, and fans who carry forward his spirit — one that remains deeply Charged Up with pride, passion, and purpose.
